Baby Leaf salad production: why we chose two production plants
The production of the OP Isola Verde baby leaf salads takes place at our greenhouses in the North and South of Italy to guarantee our customers the very best. These are the advantages of a production divided into various areas.
The choice to operate from two Op Isola Verde production plants is no coincidence. At OP Isola Verde we pay the utmost attention to the quality of the baby leaf salads, but also to the service we offer our customers, for this reason we chose to operate from two production plants, one in the North and one in the South of Italy, to exploit all the advantages provided by these two areas of our Bel Paese. Here are the advantages we can exploit.
Production of baby leaf salads in Southern Italy
The mild temperatures typical of these areas favour the growth of baby leaf salads, shorten greenhouse times and guarantee better production yields. Producing baby leaf salads in Southern Italy means we eliminate any cold winters and are able to produce all our baby leaf salads continuously, in every season, all year round.
In Southern Italy our greenhouses are located in the province of Salerno where we grow Baby leaf salads in 140 hectares of greenhouses, 60 hectares of which are dedicated to organic farming.
Production of baby leaf salads in Northern Italy
In the winter period Northern Italy normally reaches temperatures that can fall below zero but, in our greenhouses, thanks to our varietal selection, agriculture 4.0 and continual improvement policy, we have managed to put in place a production process that ensures a constant harvesting of lamb’s lettuce 365 days a year, while the other baby leaf salads are only grown in the spring-summer period.
In the province of Bergamo we cultivate 90 hectares of greenhouses, with over 30 dedicated to the production of Organic baby leaf salad.
The logistical advantages of two production sites in the North and South of Italy
Thanks to its proximity to the main European roads, the positions of our facilities offer us a competitive advantage that should not be underestimated when it comes to fresh produce. Our refrigerated trucks depart from both Telgate (BG) and Eboli (SA) every single day, for destinations on the European markets, from Sweden to Greece and to deliver baby leaf salads to our customers in the shortest time possible!
