Production of our baby leaf salads: a mix of technology and traditional methods
OP Isola Verde aims to integrate innovation within its traditional farming methods to guarantee only the very best baby leaf salads. Discover the secrets of our production.
Farming is recognised as the manual labour par excellence. Although new technologies have helped the agricultural sector to keep up with the times, the human component is still the only one that can add value to production and ensure superior quality baby leaf salads.
At OP Isola Verde we have integrated technology with the manual methods, so as to grow baby leaf salads that are nature-friendly and to assure quality products to all our customers. Here are some of the activities that highlight this bridge between tradition and innovation:
Seeding
Thanks to innovative studies and analyses, we are able to carry out varietal selection and identify the best seeding environment to grow healthy and strong baby leaf salads. The seeding of our baby leaf salads is also carried out using mechanised methods, which speed up the work without ruining the soil.
The varietal selection of seeds is the flagship element of the OP Isola Verde production process and reflects our commitment to always searching for the best baby leaf salads to propose to our customers.
Weather monitoring
Inside our greenhouses the baby leaf salads grow naturally and at their own pace. The presence of weather monitoring units, however, allows us to monitor the weather conditions and to plan the timing more precisely along with any interventions required to protect the crops throughout the year.
Control activities
The weeding and greenhouse controls are still carried out using manual methods. In the plant facilities, however, we use both experienced and trained personnel alongside optical sorters and metal detectors to detect any foreign organisms and eliminate them.
For many years OP Isola Verde has implemented a microbiological and chemical analytical monitoring plan in order to guarantee consistent control and complete conformity of the raw materials and the finished product.
Shipping
We know that the shelf life of baby leaf salads is lower compared to other food products and for this reason we send our baby leaf salad products all over Europe with cold trucks that respect the cold chain and deliver every batch as quickly as possible.
Procurement Manager
My goal is to optimise our agricultural production.
Every day I work to improve the business management system and engage the supplier members in the philosophy of continuous improvement.
I support the individual OP Isola Verde enterprises so they make the best use of their production capacities and guarantee quality baby leaf salads to our customers, time and time again.
