Baby leaf salads carefully selected from seedlings to delivery

The quality of a baby leaf salad is seen on the plate, but it begins even before the sowing phase. Find out more about the controls we carry out throughout the entire baby leaf salad production process.

The quality of baby leaf salads is evaluated at the end of the production process, when the baby leaf salads are packed and sent to our customers all over Europe. In order to achieve such standards, however, it is necessary to intervene upstream of the work procedure.

For OP Isola Verde quality is a key aspect of all baby leaf salads it grows, and this is why we start to take care of every leaf even before the sowing phase. Below is an abridged version of the main processes carried out to guarantee we deliver range 1 baby leaf salads that can truly be defined as top quality.

1. Sowing

The decision to deliver superior quality baby leaf salads starts from the choice of our seedlings. Due to our in-depth varietal analysis we are able to define which seeds have the most chance of  growing into healthy and tasty baby leaf salads, and this is why we dedicate  particular attention to the research and the choice of the best seeds.

2. Soil

The quality of the baby leaf salads depends directly on the composition of the soil in which they grow. In this case we carry out preventive analyses and rotate the varieties grown in each greenhouse, in order to guarantee the right amount of nutrients necessary to ensure strong and healthy raw materials.

3. Greenhouse sorting process

During the growing period of the baby leaf salads we carry out manual sorting on a periodic basis to eliminate weeds, parasites and salads that do not meet our standards. By intervening in a timely manner, we can protect our crops and guarantee a product that fully meets our quality standards.

4. Post-harvest controls

After harvesting the baby leaf salads, we proceed with a visual inspection of the product at our plant facilities and, in some cases, we use optical sorters to eliminate foreign elements and leaves that do not meet our quality standards

5. Certification bodies

In addition to the controls we carry out internally, our production process is periodically checked by certification bodies that attest to our compliance with all hygienic-health regulations and standards required by each certification we have obtained. As is the case of all food enterprises, we also undergo controls by the local Health Authorities (ATS).
