Our baby leaf salad produce never stops
We produce baby leaf salads all year round, even during winter. Find out how we can guarantee fresh baby leaf salad deliveries 365 days a year.
Farming produce depends on the times dictated by Nature and we cannot change them. Thanks to more recent technologies, however, we can support and follow them, so we can grow baby leaf salads throughout the year and not only in the spring and summer. Here’s how.
Varietal selection
The production of the OP Isola Verde baby leaf salads starts with the selecting of the seeds. An in-depth analysis activity allows us to only sow the most resistant varieties, those that are not attacked by parasites, that grow more vigorously, and that have a longer shelf-life. The varietal selection, therefore, makes it possible to orientate our production and obtain baby leaf salads that are a cut above the rest and can grow both in summer and winter.
Weather monitoring
All our greenhouses are equipped with weather monitoring units that monitor the temperature and humidity throughout the day. Thanks to the weather monitoring units we can intervene in a preventive manner to facilitate the growth of every variety of baby leaf salad.
Manual weeding
We carry out visual inspections and manual weeding, intervening every day to remove weeds, parasites and foreign bodies, and to select the best product.
Seed rotation
After each harvesting period, the earth is prepared for the sowing of new seeds. The rotation of the varieties in the same greenhouse allows us to protect the composition of the soil, maintaining it rich with the elements required to grow each type of baby leaf salad. By doing so we prevent low harvesting and maintain a consistent quantity of baby leaf salads produced during each cycle.
